U.S. warns companies of ‘reputational risks’ of doing business in Sudan

WASHINGTON, Might 23 (Reuters) – The United States issued an advisory on Monday warning U.S. businesses of increasing reputational pitfalls of undertaking enterprise with state-owned enterprises and military services-managed firms in Sudan.

“These challenges crop up from, amongst other items, current steps undertaken by Sudan’s Sovereign Council and protection forces below the military’s command, together with and primarily critical human rights abuse towards protesters,” Condition Section spokesperson Ned Cost reported in a statement.

The African nation has been racked by protests because a army coup in Oct, and legal professionals say dozens of political prisoners remain in detention.

“Companies and people today functioning in Sudan must undertake improved because of diligence relevant to human rights concerns and be mindful of the probable reputational risks of conducting enterprise things to do and/or transactions with SOEs and armed forces-controlled providers,” Cost reported.

The advisory was issued by the U.S. departments of Condition, Treasury, Commerce and Labor, he mentioned.
