Canada apologized to China immediately after just one of its diplomats purchased T-shirts declaring ‘Wuhan’ styled with the Wu-Tang Clan’s symbol

Canada has apologized to China after a diplomat of the country’s Beijing Embassy ordered customized T-shirts that explained “Wuhan” in the fashion of Wu-Tang Clan’s symbol.

The rap group’s symbol is a stylized “W,” nevertheless Reuters claimed that when the maker of the shirt posted pictures of it online, consumers of China’s Twitter-like Weibo described the emblem as wanting like a bat, which researchers have suspected to carry COVID-19 in advance of it spread to people in Wuhan, China, in 2019.

Upon mastering about the shirts, foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin explained to the Involved Push that he needed Canada to “extensively examine the incident and give China a crystal clear clarification.”

A spokesperson from Canada’s international assistance company advised Reuters that Canadian officers “regret the misunderstanding” and that the shirts were not produced to mock China’s response to COVID-19.

 

“The T-shirt logo created by a member of the Embassy shows a stylized W, and is not meant to depict a bat. It was made for the crew of Embassy staff performing on repatriation of Canadians from Wuhan in early 2020,” the spokesperson said.

Wu-Tang clan did not right away reply to Insider’s ask for for remark on their logo becoming utilised.

Chinese-Canadian relations have been tense in new decades – in 2018, China arrested two Canadian males and accused them of spying, and Canada detained the chief economical officer of Huawei Systems, Meng Wanzhou, who is wished in the US on fraud expenses.
