Canada has apologized to China just after a diplomat of the country’s Beijing Embassy requested tailor made T-shirts that claimed “Wuhan” in the design and style of Wu-Tang Clan’s logo.

The rap group’s brand is a stylized “W,” even though Reuters described that when the maker of the shirt posted photos of it on the net, customers of China’s Twitter-like Weibo described the symbol as on the lookout like a bat, which experts have suspected to carry COVID-19 before it distribute to people in Wuhan, China, in 2019.

Upon learning about the shirts, international ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin instructed the Connected Press that he wished Canada to “completely examine the incident and give China a very clear explanation.”

A spokesperson from Canada’s international services agency advised Reuters that Canadian officials “regret the misunderstanding” and that the shirts were not created to mock China’s reaction to COVID-19.

“The T-shirt symbol built by a member of the Embassy shows a stylized W, and is not supposed to symbolize a bat. It was created for the team of Embassy staff operating on repatriation of Canadians from Wuhan in early 2020,” the spokesperson claimed.

Wu-Tang clan did not quickly answer to Insider’s ask for for remark on their symbol staying employed.

Chinese-Canadian relations have been tense in current many years – in 2018, China arrested two Canadian guys and accused them of spying, and Canada detained the main economical officer of Huawei Technologies, Meng Wanzhou, who is required in the US on fraud costs.
